The first Santa Cali Gon Days was held in 1940 to celebrate the heritage of the City of Independence as the starting point of the Santa Fe, California, and Oregon Trails.
Back then the festival was called Three Trails Days and featured a beard and mustache contest, the Miss Independence pageant and a pioneer costume contest. Then, in 1974 it was renamed Santa-Cali-Gon Days.
Today it is considered on of the nations premier Festivals, drawing over 225,000 people each year.
Below I have added some pictures and videos on just a few of the sites, vendors and the attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for the Largest Macarena.
